Going on Vacation this Summer? Make Sure your Home is Safe and Secure

Vacation is supposed to be a time to relax, unwind, and just take it easy. Many people look forward to the Summer months because it’s a very popular time to get away and spend time with friends and family. Whether you are going on a week-long vacation or just a weekend getaway, make sure your home and your belongings are safe and protected. Allow Central Jersey Security Camera’s to help with the installation of an alarm system and/or security cameras.

  • Homes that don’t have security systems are three times more likely to be robbed. When burglars are examining a home they typically check to see if the home has security cameras. If there is a visible security camera that the burglar notices, 9 out of 10 times they will move on to a different home. It is a known statistic that a home gets broken into every 15 seconds. Only 14% of homes in the country have security systems installed. Let us help keep you from becoming a statistic by keeping your home safe and secure.
  • Suburban homes are 50% more likely to be robbed. Suburban homes are typically located in lower traffic areas and a thief will usually have better access to all sides of the home. Thieves can easily identify where they will break in because they have access to the entire outside perimeter of the home.
  • Daytime hours are the most popular times for a burglary to occur (between 10am-3pm). Most people assume a robber will break in during the night while everyone is asleep. 65% of residential burglaries happen during the day when most people are at work and the kids are at school.
  • 1/3rd of all break ins occur through unlawful entry. 33% of home invasions happen by the burglar walking straight into the home through an unlocked door or climbing through an open window.

Below are a few simple tips that can lower your chances of becoming a victim of a robbery:

  1. Refrain from posting any valuable belongings on social media. When you post pictures of that new laptop you just bought or that new flat screen T.V you are showing everyone out there the new expensive items that are sitting in your home. Also, refrain from posting about your vacation until after you get back if no one is going to be watching your home while you’re away. If a robber knows that no one will be at your home for multiple days, it will make you a very easy target for them. Although your social media pages may be private, every person on your friends’ lists can view your posts and they can pass along the information to anybody.
  2. Make sure that no one can view any expensive items in your home from the street or sidewalk. Move any TV’s, expensive sound systems, computers, etc. out of clear view especially if your going to be away for X amount of days. Also, don’t throw away any boxes for expensive items in the outside trash cans. If a burglar sees a box for a brand new 60-inch flat screen TV now they know what is in your home and this would make your home a target.
  3. Be wary on who you open your door to. Thieves will sometimes knock on your door before planning a break in to get a better view of what valuables may be inside your home. Keep track on those who do knock on your door whom you don’t know.
  4. Get a home security system and keep them up to date! Getting a security system installed is a great idea to ensure your home is safe and protected but they aren’t as useful if they don’t work properly. Choosing home security is a big investment and when making this investment you need to think about the choice you make when choosing the company to install your home security systems. Be sure that the company you choose is BBB accredited. Read the company reviews and make sure the Central Station Monitoring you choose is UL listed. Also, check with your homeowner’s insurance. Many companies offer a discount to homeowners with UL listed alarms, some companies now offer a discount on installing security cameras to your home as well. Check with your provider to see what discounts they might offer.

What is the best option for my home?

Our team of well-trained technicians will help you feel confident that you are choosing the proper security equipment and placement to fit your home’s needs. Keep your family and belongings safe and secure while you’re away. We have two different types of cameras, one being dome shaped, the other being a bullet shaped. The main difference between the two is their appearance although we recommend bullet shaped cameras for outside. Some bullet cameras have double EXIR infrareds built into them causing their night vision to extend an additional 40-50 feet. You will be able to receive notifications or text messages of real time video from your security equipment. View what is taking place at your home when it happens through a live feed from your smartphone, tablet, or other portable devices. Use our event schedule to locate exactly when an event occurred that you may want to view. For example, if an even were to occur at your home within a 24-hour period but you aren’t sure of when it happened, you can use our event schedule which appears as a color-coded event list that allows you to jump ahead to all motion triggered events. If your cameras are set to record all the time it can shorten the space on your hard drive, even if there are no motion triggers. With the event schedule you can save space and lengthen the time on your DVR/NVR. Another useful tool to your cameras is line crossing detection. Take comfort in knowing your home is safe and secure even while you’re on vacation.

Line crossing detection, also known as line intrusion, is a function of your NVR, DVR, or IP camera. It instantly detects any motion in a set area. This set area is personally set by you for your alert needs. You will get immediate alerts to your smart device from your camera. For example, say you want to get notified when someone pulls through your driveway or walks up to your front door. You would go into the software of your camera and start drawing specific lines across your driveway or walkway up to your house. This line is only a visual perimeter, so it is not visible to the human eye in person. If the line that you personally set becomes breached, you will get a notification through the app or to your email depending on which option you choose. You can set line crossing detection to work on schedules and during certain hours of the day. This is great if you are planning on going away because you can set it for every day you’re away and get notified if someone enters your property.

There are also sensitivity settings for line crossing detection. You may not want to be notified if a cat or other small animal enters your set area, therefore you would just adjust the scale to only be notified for larger objects. Get the protection your home needs by having a security system that notifies you when someone is at your home who isn’t supposed to be there. With footage from your security cameras, you now have proof of exactly what is happening when you aren’t there. Most home alarms are linked to central station monitoring for a small monthly fee that alerts the proper authorities once it’s set off. If you are planning on having someone stop by your home while you’re away, you can disarm it right from your smartphone and arm it again once they leave. Take it easy on your vacation by knowing Central Jersey Security Camera’s has your home safe and secure.

Listed below are some of the alarm systems we offer:

Security Alarm System Keypads
Keypads are an important part of your security system. They allow you to arm the system with a secured code. They can be placed wherever you need them most and are easy to use. Keypads feature emergency buttons that allow you to call for help immediately. If you are planning on having somebody watch your house or someone is staying home while you’re away, let them have peace of mind knowing that help is just the press of a button away. In the case of a power outage the buttons are lit still allowing you to view our keypad.

Door and Window Sensor
According to the NBFAA, 56% of burglars enter through a door, another 23% through the first-floor window. Door and window sensors are placed in these areas of vulnerability. When the contact is broken, the alarm is triggered.

Motion Detectors
Motion detectors are triggered when someone walks in view of the detector. If intruders enter your home through a door or window that is not protected by a sensor, the motion detector will act as a trap ensuring they don’t stay at your home for long. Motion detectors can be turned off when you are home while your windows and doors can still remain secured.

Panic Buttons
Panic sensors are designed to go just about anywhere. This sensor allows you to activate a 24-hour emergency alarm. Call for help with just a push of a button.

Alarm Sirens
An alarm siren provides peace of mind for you and acts as a deterrent for would-be intruders. When the alarm sounds an intruder will most likely leave your property as soon as possible.

Don’t spend your vacation being stressed and nervous about what could be taking place at your home. Take it easy and enjoy yourself to the fullest while you’re away. Let Central Jersey Security Camera’s help make that happen. You will be able to have peace of mind knowing exactly what is taking place in your home right from the palm of your hand. Central Jersey Security Camera’s is BBB accredited. Live your life to the fullest this vacation season while still ensuring your home and your valuables are safe and secure. Not only does Central Jersey Security Cameras have a help tab on our website that has step by step videos for you to follow along with, we also offer technical support as well. Protect your Elderly Loved Ones – Consider a Security Camera System to Keep Your Family Safe!

elderly couple

Adult communities have a lot of perks ranging from their clubhouses filled with different activities to no longer needing to shovel snow or mow your own lawn. Although this is a great option for the elderly to live, we still need to ensure that their homes are safe and protected. What is stopping someone from breaking into your gated community home?

Typically, adult communities have decorative gates and fencing at the entrances and around the community. Would this really stop a determined burglar from just parking somewhere nearby and walking right in or hopping the fence? The elderly are a target for burglars because they can usually easily overpower them and take their valuables without much of a fight. An elderly man from St. Louis, Missouri is currently recovering from a burglary that happened inside his home on April 19, 2019. The elderly victim was sitting outside on his porch when a masked man approached him and pulled out a gun. The victim was then forced inside his home and struck in the face with the gun. The burglar stole the victims’ cell phone and other belongings before fleeing the scene. This incident was caught on an interior security camera the victim had inside his home. Capturing these unfortunate events on the camera will give the authorities a better picture of those responsible and will show them exactly what took place. Let’s keep our elderly parents safe and secure with the help of Central Jersey Security Cameras.

Keep an eye on those who matter to you

Do your parents or grandparents live in a gated community? Installing security cameras in their homes will be a huge relief knowing that you can check on them if they aren’t answering your phone calls or you haven’t heard from them in a couple of days. Not only will security cameras protect your loved ones by being a deterrent for intruders, but they reek the benefits much more than that. By installing security cameras in their homes, you will be able to actually see what they are up to. Unfortunately, burglars and thieves aren’t the only people that raise concern when thinking about your elderly parents living alone. Have you considered getting a home health aide to go to their home? You need to make sure that whoever you choose to take care of your elderly loved ones are giving them the proper care they need while also treating them with respect and dignity. We can set up nanny cams in their homes so you will be able to actually see what is taking place if a home health aide does go to their home. We all worry about our elderly loved ones when we can’t physically be there with them. Not only will security cameras give you peace of mind knowing that your loved ones are okay, but it can also be lifesaving for them. With security cameras placed inside the home, you will be able to see mom cooking in the kitchen while ensuring she’s safe around the stove. With the placement of outdoor cameras, you can check in and see that dad is safe while out in the yard or walking up the front steps. Everyone needs that added home security no matter what age, however with today’s advanced technology there are many benefits to installing security systems for our elderly loved ones.

Be alerted

Wouldn’t it be nice to get an alert sent to your phone when someone walks up to your parent’s house or pulls into their driveway? Well, now you can! With our professionally installed HD security cameras, we have a feature called line intrusion we can set up to your cameras. Line intrusion works by setting your own area in which you would want to be alerted if it became breached. For example, if you want to receive an alert to your phone when someone pulls into your parent’s driveway you would go into the software and draw lines in the front of the driveway. These lines are only set by you, therefore, they aren’t visible to the human eye. There are also sensitivity settings that you have the option to adjust. If you don’t want to be alerted if a rabbit hops into their driveway you would simply adjust the sensitivity setting to measure larger objects. If the set area becomes breached, you will receive an alert right on your smart device. Line intrusion is a free bonus to having your security cameras professionally installed by us.

Spring has Sprung! Make Sure your Home is Safe this Season

Spring has sprung

With the sun staying up longer, the weather getting warmer, and many people battling their allergies, this can only mean one thing… Spring has sprung! Be sure to enjoy these warmer months and all the outdoor activities they bring while still making sure your home is safe and secure. There are so many fun things to do in New Jersey this Spring, whether it be going to baseball games, festivals, or just spending your days outside, make sure you and your family don’t miss out. Allow Central Jersey Security Camera’s to help you in protecting your home and valuables so you can enjoy this Spring season!

What do you recommend for my home?

Our well-trained technicians will help you in deciding which products are best fit for your home’s needs. With nearby towns like Toms River, Asbury Park, Brick, Seaside, Point Pleasant, and Belmar, you are not going to want to stay inside all Spring to keep an eye on your home. All these towns have multiple events coming up whether it be the opening of farmers markets, cook-offs, or local festivals, so be sure not to miss them while still making sure your home is being protected. With the installation of security cameras, you can feel comfortable leaving your house for the day while still knowing what’s taking place there from the palm of your hand. Our DVR, NPR, or IP cameras have a feature called line crossing detection, also known as line intrusion. Line crossing detection will instantly detect any motion in a personally set area that you design for all your alert needs. It will send notifications right to your smart device to notify you. If you want to be alerted when a specific part of your property detects motion you would go into the software and draw lines across the area you want to set. For example, say you want to be notified when someone walks up to your garage, you would draw the lines in front of the garage. These lines that you set are only a virtual perimeter therefore they are not visible to the human eye.

When the specific area you set is breached you will receive an alert through the app or directly to your email, depending on which option you choose. You can even have an audible alert on site through an external siren or from he DVR or NVR. You can set this to work on schedules, so when you’re out for the day enjoying the nice weather with your family and friends you will still be alerted.  There are sensitivity settings that you can adjust. For example, if you don’t want to be alerted when a rabbit or other small animal enters your yard, you would adjust the settings to measure larger objects.

You can never be too safe when it comes to protecting your family and your home. Double up on your home by getting an alarm system installed. Homes that add an alarm system as well as have security cameras have added protection to their home which is a burglar’s worst nightmare. Not only will the person who has entered your home be caught on tape; they have also alerted the proper authorities by setting off your alarm system. With the footage from the security camera you will know exactly what took place at your home. Most of today’s home alarms are linked to central station monitoring for a small monthly fee. This will alert the proper authorities when the alarm is triggered. With the new UltraSync alarm you won’t only just be alerted if someone is at your home, but right from the palm of your hand you will be able to do much more. Features like arming and disarming your system from your phone is only just the beginning!

Can the cameras view clearly at night?

Here at Central Jersey Security Cameras we make sure to have the proper equipment to fit everyone’s needs. Our team of well-trained technicians would be happy to help you find the proper placement and choose the proper cameras for the outside. Infrared security cameras have infrared lighting (light from a different region of the electromagnetic spectrum than we normally use to see) installed around the outside of the camera lens. This allows the camera to capture a good image with no light at all. With a small amount of light, called low light, the infrared camera can capture an image that looks just like daytime. At night there is usually some light from the moon, stars, or street lights/

We don’t recommend using infrared cameras in outdoor housings because the light reflects off the glass of the housing. An alternative solution is to use a day/night camera which has an extra sensitive imaging chip that allows it to capture a good image in low light situations without infrared lighting. This works well if there are street lights outside or an exterior light can be left on at night. Cameras that don’t have infrared lights will not capture an image with zero light.

A cameras lux is the level of light to capture a good picture. The lower the cameras lux, the better the camera can see in the dark. For example, a camera with 0.003 lux is better than a camera with 0.2 lux. Infrared cameras are also compared by how far they can see in total darkness. We sell cameras that see in total darkness over 120 feet at night. People use infrared security cameras for businesses that have lights out at night (in case of a break in) or for outside to view at night.

Infrared cameras capture black and white images however some cameras can capture color images during the day when the light is available and will automatically switch to black and white in low lighting. Times are changing and there has been a break through in night vision with the introduction of EXIR or Matrix IR’s. Hikvision pioneered this type of technology and we have noticed a great difference in the quality of the picture at night. These EXIR cameras (a highly-efficient light source and enhanced LED light strength. By employing the most advanced thin-film and light-emitting technology, this series provides up to 30% more illuminate efficiency over traditional LED array technology. Furthermore, the EXIR series even provides a 40% light-extraction rate improvement when compared to traditional models, resulting in a stronger light for long-range visibility usage.

To make the most out of our IR LED light, EXIR HD, and IP cameras, produce LED light in the form of a rectangle. This allows a better fit for a screens normal size (4:3 or 16:9). Additionally, this will improve LED utilization efficiency and reduce light pollution in the surrounding environment. Images are further optimized with EXIR’s luminance uniformity functionality, which eliminates traditional LED lens issues, such as over exposure at the center of images, as well as darker areas at the corners. EXIR HD/IP cameras capture great image detail in poorly lit environments, better providing for solutions at parks, harbors, roads and airports.

Will my cameras notify me of suspicious activity?

With our professionally installed HD security cameras you can receive instant notifications right to your smart phone. You can set up a perimeter around your home, arm a specific area, or set individual cameras to sent you an alert right to your phone, this is known as line crossing detection or intrusion detection. To set a specific area you need to go into the software of your NVR, DVR, or IP camera and start drawing lines where you want your set area to be. For example, if you want to be notified when someone walks up our driveway or pulls in, you would draw a line where your driveway starts. This line is just a virtual line and is not visible to the human eye. Once the area that your specifically set is “breached” or detects motion, you will receive a notification within seconds of the even taking place. There is a sensitivity setting that you can adjust to meet your needs. For example, if you don’t want to be notified when a small animal enters your driveway or yard you would just adjust the sensitivity to only notify you for heavier objects. The best part about this feature is that there is no monthly charge. This feature is a free bonus to having your security cameras professionally installed by us here at Central Jersey Security Cameras!

Spring is Coming

Seems like this weekend spring will finally show its face around central New Jersey. The days are getting longer, and everyone seems to start to come outside after the long winter. Everyone is making spring home improvement plans to get their homes ready for summer. One thing we love to do at our home each year is to start planting flowers and shrubs around our property. However, after working for a security company for many years, I know to think twice before I plant anything around my home. Working for Central Jersey Security Cameras over these years has taught me a thing or two about home security and keeping my family safe. Don’t get me wrong I love planting each spring and do add a shrub or two to my home each year, I just now choose where I plant my additions more wisely. I have a home security system on my home with security cameras throughout the perimeter of my home and now when I plant I take into consideration and ask myself “will the shrub I plant ever block my camera’s views as it grows?” I also think about the shrubs and the effect it will have on the lighting around my house. As these shrubs grow, will it affect the lighting around my home and give my yard dark spots that can make it easier for a would-be intruder to come up to my home? Keeping my family and home safe is a priority for me. I run alarm tests on my home alarm system monthly and I make sure my security cameras always have clear views of my home and the surrounding areas. Making sure your equipment is working properly and making sure you do not add shrubs to an area that will block your camera’s views are just a few quick ways that I help keep my family and home safe.

Here are some spring home safety tips:

• Keep your home lit: Even with it staying brighter longer in the spring it is still important to keep your home lit up so a person lurking around our home can be seen.
• Lock your doors: Ensure all your door and window locks around the home are working and are not loose. When you’re out of the house, increase your privacy and security by closing blinds and curtains. This can help deter criminals from looking in your house and coveting your things.
• Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: Replace any batteries that are dead. If your units are more than 10 years old, it is time to replace them! It’s also a great time to test your alarm system if you have one. There are 5 simple steps which can be found
• Spring can get hot: If you are putting in window air conditioning units this spring, make sure you stabilize and secure the units so that they cannot easily be taken out by a criminal or fall out on their own inviting criminals to your home. If you have central air and cooling, have your system serviced before you begin to use it.

Do you have small children that live in your home? How about elderly parents or grandparents?
With spring comes warmer weather. With warmer weather, the desire to be outside increases. With that being said, you’d naturally want to keep an eye on your elderly loved ones while they sit outside drinking their coffee reading the newspaper. Maybe they even have a green thumb of their own and are out planting in the yard. Sure, you’d love to be there and see for yourself, but unfortunately, you cannot be everywhere all the time. With security cameras placed at your elderly loved one’s home or in your home, you can see everything that’s going on in and around the home right in the palm of your hand.
Not only will security cameras help you keep an eye on the older generation, you may also need to know when the kids get home from school, so you would set up a virtual intrusion area at your front door. For your older children that don’t need a sitter, the bus rolls in to drop them off while you’re still at work. Sure, they’re going to want to play outside on their own and you’re going to want to make sure they don’t stray out of the yard and keep an eye on them. Make sure they’re not getting themselves into trouble by having line intrusion alerts sent right to your phone.
Line crossing detection, or intrusion detection, is a function of your DVR, NVR or IP camera. What it does is that it instantly detects any motion in a certain “set”, which is a set area that is personally set by you for your alert needs. It will send immediate alerts to your smart device directly from the DVR, NVR  or IP camera. For example, you want to know when someone or something enters your driveway? So, you go into the software of your DVR, NVR or IP camera and start setting up specific areas by drawing lines across the driveway. Of course, these are not visible lines to the human eye since it is only a virtual line or perimeter you have created, but it acts just as good as a virtual tripwire. In essence, what it will do is activate the area when the area or line is breached and send you a notification either directly through the app or to your email, whichever option you choose. You can even have audible alerts right on site through an external siren or right from the DVR or NVR.
You can set this to work on schedules, certain hours during the day, certain days during the week or if you are on vacation and will be away from your home or business and you want to be alerted when someone or something breaches your “set” area or areas. While both High Definition and IP cameras or the use of an NVR in conjunction with IP cameras will both do the job, there is more flexibility with the NVR and IP cameras in terms of having multiple cameras set up for line crossing/intrusion detection. There are also sensitivity settings that do adjust to meet your needs. For example, you may not want to know when a cat or small animal crosses the line, so you would adjust the scale to measure for larger objects.

Homes that add an alarm system to their home with security cameras are four times less likely to be victimized. Double up on your home security. Today’s home alarms are more than just a loud shrieking noise when they go off! All of our alarms are either connected to Central Station Monitoring or are set up to send alerts directly to your smart device or you can set it up to do both. Having your alarm connected with Central Station Monitoring will alert the proper authorities when the alarm is triggered. There’s no such thing as too much security!
With advances in alarms this past year with the launch of the new Ultra-sync alarm home automation system, you can now not only be alerted when someone is at your home but right from the palm of your hand, you can use your smartphone to do much more! Just to name a few key features you can use right from your smartphone:
• You can turn your lights on and off at your home.
• You can lock and unlock your doors.
• You can control your thermostat.
Spring is also that time of year where the weather goes from hot to cold, cold to hot. Being able to control your thermostat from your phone is super convenient! Now you’ll have your home set to the right temperature while we battle the weather, not knowing if we need our home to be warmer on the cool days or cooler on the warm days.

It’s that time of year some of us love and some of us dread. Spring cleaning! While you are doing your spring cleaning in and around your home, this is also an appropriate time to check the batteries in all your detectors and make sure there are no excessive amounts of dust in your detectors. This is also an appropriate time to check with your security company to make sure everything is up and running properly. It is important to be aware of the dangers that follow a faulty detector. As the warm weather creeps up on us we tend to forget to make sure we are safe! In the event of an emergency, you want to be ready for the worst with the best plan in mind starting with the swift notification from an alarm or detector.

Know the difference between a Home Invasion, Robbery, Burglary, Larceny, Theft and Extortion

Home Invasion:
In the dictionary home invasion is defined as; In the United States and many other English speaking countries (though not the United Kingdom) home invasion is an illegal and usually forceful entry to an occupied, private dwelling with intent to commit a violent crime against the occupants, such as robbery, assault, rape, murder, or kidnapping.
Burglary vs Robbery are Often the Most Confused Terms:
Robbery and burglary are both crimes that involve theft and it is the circumstances that surround each that defines their differences. When it comes to the legal definition of theft there are actually a number of categories of theft in addition to burglary and robbery. These additional theft crimes include: larceny, theft and extortion.

In the dictionary, robbery is defined by the law as taking or trying to take something from someone that has value by utilizing intimidation, force or threat. In order for robbery to take place, a victim must be present at the scene and can occur with a single victim or, in cases like bank hold ups, multiple victims.

Burglary is defined by the law as the unlawful entry to a structure to commit theft or a felony. In order for burglary to take place, a victim does not have to be present. When a burglary takes place, the structure being unlawfully entered can be any number of building types including business offices, personal homes and even garden sheds. Burglary is not the term used for crimes committed on cars.

In the dictionary, larceny is a term that is similar to burglary. However, it does not involve illegal entry to a structure using attempted forcible, non-forcible or forcible entry methods. The exception to this rule is the case of burglary of a motor vehicle which is referred to as larceny. Under all conditions, whether a vehicle is left with the doors locked and security system on or whether the doors or windows were left open, vehicle “burglary” crimes are referred to as larceny

In the dictionary, many times the term, theft, is used as a general term by the public to refer to the illegal taking of an item. As it happens, theft is defined specifically depending upon the jurisdiction in which it is being prosecuted, but many times it is a term used as a synonym for larceny.

In the dictionary extortion is a specific crime in which an individual forces someone to do something against their will by threatening them with damage to the person’s reputation, financial hardship, violence, property damage or threat of violence. Extortion differs from robbery in that victims who are being extorted willingly hand over the item being extorted in an attempt to avoid the threat being used against them. Depending upon the jurisdiction in which extortion is being prosecuted, it can be considered theft or larceny.
